Pilot Lessons

Materials
I will add to this list as
time goes on. If you are taking lessons from me, then you can safely
purchase anything on this list without talking to me first. If you
shop around and find a better alternative, let me know, and I may let
you try it out. If it's a good find, I may add it to the list. There
are certain things that aren't available online, so I will let you
know what to do about those items. The headsets are pretty much up to
you. You'll be stuck with it, so don't feel like you're limited to
this list. There are hundreds to choose from, and I can't really
list them all here. Also, keep in mind, if you take lessons with someone else, they may have a preference as to what you buy. So, you should speak to them first.
Books:
- Aviation Weather *recommended
- FAA Airport/Facility Directory SC *Note the date. Don't buy if it's to expire soon
Tools (choose only one of
each category)
- E6B – several to choose from
- Plotters
- Flash Light
- White/Red/Blue *recommended
- Headsets (required on first day)
First decide if you want
noise canceling or not. If you plan on flying allot, I recommend
it. I personally use Bose. If you plan on flying on the weekends,
than I highly recommend the David Clarks. David Clark does have one
with noise canceling on one of their headsets. I have not used it,
so I cannot recommend, but it is a bit cheaper than most with noise
canseling, so I will list it.
- Without Noise Canceling
- Flightcom 4DX Classic aviation headset (Cheap starter set)
- With Noise Canceling
- Bose Aviation Headset X (I use this)
- Bose® A20 Aviation Headset (A few more features)
- Lightspeed SIERRA ANR Aviation Headset (I have never used these, but I've heard good things.
